ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal organized a
“One Day Farmer’s Meet cum Exhibition” on 4th March 2025 at ICAR Manipur Centre. The programme was graced by Shri. Peter Salam,
Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur as the Chief Guest. Dr. Ramgopal Laha, Ex-Head of Regional Centre, ICAR RC for
NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Dr. S. Basanta Singh, Principal Scientist (Agril. Eco.) & Nodal Officer-ICAR KVKs, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam
attended as the Guest of Honours. Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre presided the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Shri Peter Salam suggested that officials related to
agriculture should devote the first half of every working day to the field to help in developing more synergic relations with the farmers for their welfare.
Dr. S. Basanta Singh expressed that farming practices have been drastically changed in the
region due to the impact of climate change and the shrinking of agricultural land holdings. Farmers should encourage to join FPO, FPC and farmers
cooperatives to make farming more successful and profitable enterprises.
Dr. Ramgopal Laha opined that livestock are very important component in farming system and encourages farmers
to adopt improved breeds of livestock for higher yield and enhancing the economic livelihood from farming.
Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi stated that ICAR Manipur Centre has developed a number of crop varieties,
scientific farming practices including fish production and breeding technologies. She requested the farmers to adopt these technologies while
mentioning that the Centre is always ready to help in solving the problems of the farmers.
Selected innovative farmers of the state had also shared their success stories in the event.
An exhibition was also held showcasing the various ICAR technologies and products developed by ICAR, agri-entreprenurs, innovative farmers,
Farmer Producer Organization, etc. Various products ranging from improved seeds, mushroom, eggs, dairy products, millet products, organic vegetables,
fishes, products produced by relief camp inmates, etc were exhibited. Altogether 200 number of participants comprising of delegates and farmers participated
in the event. During the programme, various inputs of crop, horticultural seeds, fishery, poultry, etc. were distributed to the farmers.
